A bacterial antigen is any molecule or molecular structure present on the surface or inside bacteria that can be recognized by the host immune system and trigger an immune response. These antigens are critical for both the pathogenesis of bacterial infections and for developing diagnostic tools, vaccines, and immunotherapies. They serve as markers that allow the immune system to distinguish between self and non-self entities and are central to vaccine development.
