Bacterial Biofilm Inhibitor

Molecular classification
Small organic molecules, Fatty acids, Enzymes, Ionic liquids, Quorum sensing inhibitors
01

Overview

A bacterial biofilm inhibitor is a molecule or agent that prevents the formation, maturation, or persistence of bacterial biofilms. Biofilms are structured communities of bacteria encased in a self-produced extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) matrix. These structures confer significant resistance to antibiotics and immune responses, making infections difficult to eradicate. Biofilm inhibitors target various stages of the biofilm lifecycle, including adhesion, quorum sensing, matrix synthesis, and biofilm dispersal. They are considered an adjunctive therapy for treating chronic bacterial infections.
