Bacterial biofilm on tooth surface

Molecular classification
Other (Microbial community)
01

Overview

Bacterial biofilm on tooth surfaces, commonly known as dental plaque, is a complex community of microorganisms that adhere to and grow on tooth surfaces. It is formed through a series of stages including the formation of an acquired enamel pellicle, bacterial adhesion, and the production of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) that provide structural integrity and protection to the biofilm. Dental plaque is a major factor in oral health issues such as dental caries and periodontal diseases.
