Bacterial cell wall proteins are essential structural and functional components embedded in or associated with the bacterial cell envelope. These proteins play critical roles in maintaining cell shape, mediating interactions with the environment, and serving as targets for antibiotics. Oxidative damage to these proteins occurs when reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as superoxide anion (O_2^-), hydrogen peroxide (H_2O_2), and hydroxyl radicals interact with amino acid residues, leading to structural modifications that can impair protein function or cause cell death.
