Overview

Bacterial interference is a biological phenomenon describing the antagonistic interactions between different bacterial species during colonization of host surfaces and competition for nutrients. This process plays a significant role in maintaining the balance of normal endogenous flora and preventing colonization by pathogenic bacteria. Mechanisms include competitive adherence, production of bacteriocins, and steric blockage. It is not a discrete molecular target but an ecological mechanism within microbial communities.
