Overview

These components generate a proton gradient across the membrane, driving ATP production via oxidative phosphorylation. Inhibitors of specific ETC complexes or the membrane are considered potential antibiotics, although broad inhibition risks toxicity to host mitochondria due to structural similarity of the involved enzymes.
