Bacterial membranes and surface proteins refer to the complex array of lipids and associated proteins that form the boundaries and external features of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. These structures include outer membranes (in Gram-negatives), peptidoglycan layers, teichoic acids (in Gram-positives), and a wide diversity of proteins such as porins, adhesins, lipoproteins, S-layer proteins, and efflux pumps.
