Overview

Bacterial nucleic acid metabolism encompasses the biochemical processes involved in the synthesis (anabolism) and degradation (catabolism) of nucleic acids—DNA and RNA—in bacteria. These processes are essential for bacterial growth, replication, repair, gene expression, and adaptation to environmental changes. Key enzymes include Aspartate transcarbamoylase (ATCase) and Ribonucleotide reductase. The pathways are tightly regulated by feedback inhibition.
