BCL7C is a protein-coding gene encoding a subunit of the BAF (also known as SWI/SNF) chromatin remodeling complex, which regulates chromatin accessibility and gene expression[3][4]. BCL7C shares sequence similarity with BCL7A and BCL7B but its precise biochemical and physiological functions remain incompletely defined[2][4]. Experimental evidence supports a tumor-suppressor role for BCL7C in ovarian cancer, specifically acting by inhibiting the transcriptional activity of mutant p53 and, consequently, repressing cancer cell proliferation and invasion in a mutant p53-dependent manner[2]. BCL7C may also have an anti-apoptotic function and participates in cellular gene regulation as part of the multi-subunit BAF chromatin remodeling complexes[3][4][5]. There are no known drugs or direct clinical biomarkers associated with BCL7C, although loss of BCL7C is linked to poor prognosis in certain cancers[2][4].
