Overview

BARX1 antisense RNA 1 (BARX1-AS1 or BARX1-DT) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the BARX1 gene locus. It has no protein-coding potential but modulates biological processes, notably by regulating gene expression associated with proliferation, migration, and invasion in cancer cells. Elevated BARX1-DT expression is associated with poor prognosis in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and is used as part of lncRNA-based classifiers for patient stratification. Functional studies indicate that BARX1-DT promotes oncogenic properties in carcinoma cells, but there are currently no drugs that directly interact with this lncRNA or exploit it as a therapeutic target.
