Overview

Basic leucine zipper ATF-like transcription factor 2 (BATF2) is a protein-coding gene that functions as a transcription factor in the AP-1 family, exerting control over the differentiation of immune system cells, especially CD8+ thymic conventional dendritic cells following infection. BATF2 forms heterodimers with JUN family proteins to regulate gene expression by binding to specific DNA motifs. It suppresses CCN1 transcription, thereby inhibiting pathways that can lead to cell proliferation and oncogenic growth in certain cancers. It is implicated in the immune response, transcriptional regulation, and the etiology of some cancers and rare syndromes
