Basic leucine zipper nuclear factor 1 (BLZF1), also known as Golgin-45, is a protein encoded by the BLZF1 gene in humans[3][4]. It is primarily required for maintaining the normal structure of the Golgi apparatus and for mediating protein transport from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) through the Golgi to the plasma membrane[3][5]. BLZF1 contains a basic leucine zipper domain, suggesting it can act as a DNA-binding transcription factor and bind to ubiquitin protein ligases[3]. BLZF1 localizes to both the Golgi apparatus and the nucleoplasm. Clinically, BLZF1 has been associated with neurodegenerative disorders like paraneoplastic cerebellar degeneration, infectious diseases such as brucellosis, and has been suggested as a biomarker of hepatocellular carcinoma[3].Important notes: - BLZF1 is not a classic therapeutic target (e.g., receptor, enzyme) and there are no known drugs directly targeting it. - The protein plays a structural and regulatory role rather than being directly involved in classical signal transduction or as a pharmacological target.
