Overview

Basic transcription factor 3-like 4 pseudogene 3 (BTF3L4P3) is a processed pseudogene found in the human genome and named for its sequence homology to the functional gene basic transcription factor 3-like 4. Like most pseudogenes, BTF3L4P3 does not encode a functional protein due to disruptive mutations, absence of regulatory elements, or both. While some pseudogenes are transcribed and may influence cellular processes as noncoding RNAs, there is no direct evidence that BTF3L4P3 is functional or involved in disease or therapy. Pseudogenes can complicate genetic studies by sharing sequence similarity with functional genes, but they are typically regarded as nonfunctional genomic elements.
