BTF3P9 (Basic transcription factor 3 pseudogene 9) is a human pseudogene located on chromosome 5. It is a non-coding, non-functional genetic sequence derived from the basic transcription factor 3 gene (BTF3). Unlike its parent protein-coding gene BTF3, which encodes a general transcription initiation factor required for RNA polymerase II function and has important roles in cell cycle regulation, DNA replication, and tumorigenesis[2][3][4][5][7], BTF3P9 itself does not produce a functional protein and is not involved in these biological processes. Pseudogenes typically arise as a result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and, in the case of BTF3P9, are not known to contribute to cell biology or therapeutic targeting[1][6].
