Basophil Histamine Release (BHR)

Target
BHR
Molecular classification
Cellular process, Immune response
01

Overview

Basophil histamine release refers to the process by which basophils, a type of white blood cell, secrete histamine in response to various stimuli. This release is a key event in allergic reactions and immune responses, contributing to inflammation and other physiological effects. The classic trigger is cross-linking of IgE antibodies bound to FcεRI receptors by specific antigens. Other triggers include calcium ionophores and platelet-derived factors. The process can be modulated by intracellular signaling pathways, and dysregulation contributes directly to symptoms seen in allergic rhinitis, asthma exacerbations, urticaria, anaphylaxis, and other hypersensitivity disorders.
