BBLN pseudogene 1 is a noncoding genomic DNA sequence classified as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes structurally resemble functional genes but are rendered nonfunctional by disabling mutations and typically do not code for proteins[1][4][7]. They may arise via gene duplication or retrotransposition. While most pseudogenes do not participate in classical gene function, some have been reported to play regulatory roles at the RNA level or act as competing endogenous RNAs influencing gene expression. However, there is no evidence of any functional, regulatory, or disease-associated role for BBLN pseudogene 1 specifically. Pseudogenes are generally considered genomic fossils and are not direct drug targets[1][4][7].
