BCAR3 antisense RNA 1 (BCAR3-AS1, also known as TP53LC19) is a long non-coding RNA that is transcribed antisense to the BCAR3 gene. As an antisense RNA (asRNA), BCAR3-AS1 may regulate the expression of the BCAR3 protein-coding gene through cis or trans mechanisms—commonly by interfering with transcription, altering promoter activity, or affecting epigenetic marks[2]. Antisense RNAs have been shown to modulate sense gene expression by mechanisms such as promoter competition, transcriptional collision, and RNA-RNA pairing, impacting processes such as genomic imprinting and cell fate decisions[2]. However, the specific biological functions, disease relevance, and molecular interactions of BCAR3-AS1 itself require additional study; current knowledge is mostly inferred from general asRNA biology. No current evidence supports BCAR3-AS1 as a conventional drug target, receptor, enzyme, or signaling molecule, nor are there any drugs directly targeting this antisense transcript. BCAR3-AS1’s potential importance may relate to its influence on BCAR3, a scaffolding adapter involved in cancer cell signaling, but its clinical utility and biomarker status remain unestablished[2].
