Overview

BCAS2 pre-mRNA processing factor (BCAS2) is a nuclear protein essential for activating pre-mRNA splicing as a core component of the human spliceosome, specifically part of the PRP19-CDC5L complex[7]. It is required for proper mRNA processing and may play a scaffolding role, contacting other core factors in the spliceosome, and is implicated in the cellular response to DNA damage[1][2][7]. BCAS2 has been identified as highly expressed and/or amplified in specific cancers—particularly breast and prostate—which implicates it as a potential oncogene or therapeutic target. Its physiological function is tightly linked to genomic integrity and proper regulation of gene expression via splicing[1][5][7].
