Overview

BCAS2 pseudogene 1 (BCAS2P1) is a noncoding genomic region sharing sequence similarity with the functional gene BCAS2, which encodes Pre-mRNA-splicing factor SPF27. Pseudogenes like BCAS2P1 generally do not produce functional protein products and are not considered molecular or therapeutic targets. The functional protein (BCAS2) is a critical core component of the spliceosome involved in mRNA splicing, cell cycle control, and DNA damage response, and has been investigated in the context of breast cancer, fertility, and developmental processes[1][2][4][5]. BCAS2P1 is not a therapeutic target and has no described molecular/clinical function. The functional gene BCAS2, occasionally mistakenly conflated with BCAS2P1, is a spliceosome-associated protein important in several biological systems and diseases. If structured data for an actionable drug target is required, "BCAS2 (Pre-mRNA-splicing factor SPF27)" should be considered instead of the pseudogene "BCAS2P1."[1][5]
