Overview

BCAS2 pseudogene 3 (BCAS2P3) is a non-functional genomic element derived from the BCAS2 gene, which encodes a pre-mRNA processing factor involved in mRNA splicing and the DNA damage response[2][3]. BCAS2P3 does not produce a functional protein product. Pseudogenes like BCAS2P3 are generally considered genomic relics of protein-coding genes and may occasionally have regulatory roles (such as acting as competing endogenous RNAs, or ceRNAs, modulating gene expression), but for BCAS2P3 there are no published biological functions, disease associations, or validation as a target for drug development[6]. Therefore, it is not accurate to consider BCAS2P3 a therapeutic target.

02

Mechanism of action

None reported

03

Biological functions

None ascribed; pseudogenes are generally non-functional remnants of genes
04

Disease associations

None directly ascribed; possible indirect regulatory or biomarker roles for some pseudogenes have been described in the literature, but there is no specific evidence for BCAS2P3
