BCAS3 antisense RNA 1 (BCAS3-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene transcribed from the human genome on chromosome 17. Unlike protein-coding genes, BCAS3-AS1 produces a functional RNA transcript that does not encode a protein. It is transcribed antisense to the BCAS3 protein-coding gene, which means its sequence overlaps with BCAS3 on the opposite DNA strand. As an antisense lncRNA, its biological role may involve regulation of gene expression or chromatin structure, specifically acting on the BCAS3 locus or related pathways, although further functional details are not well defined in current databases[1][5][6][7][10][11]. There is no evidence it functions as a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or similar protein class.
