BNIP3 (BCL2 interacting protein 3) is a member of the BCL-2 protein family that contains a BH3 domain essential for protein-protein interactions with other BCL-2 family members. The protein functions primarily at mitochondrial membranes where it regulates cell death pathways through direct binding interactions that can influence mitochondrial outer membrane permeabilization.
