Overview

*BCL2 interacting protein 3 pseudogene 1 (BNIP3P1)* is a human pseudogene and does not encode a functional protein. It is related by sequence similarity to the true *BNIP3* gene (*BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19 kDa protein-interacting protein 3*), which is a BH3-only pro-apoptotic member of the BCL2 protein family involved in cell death, autophagy, and cancer. However, BNIP3P1 itself does not produce a receptor, enzyme, or any product that can serve as a drug target. Any literature or database entries discussing roles in apoptosis, autophagy, or disease are specific to the functional gene *BNIP3* and not the BNIP3P1 pseudogene. If you are interested in the functional *BNIP3* protein, please specify, as BNIP3 is a recognized pro-apoptotic BCL2 family protein with experimentally characterized roles and potential as a disease biomarker and research target.

Mechanism of action

None

03

Biological functions

None established—pseudogenes have no confirmed biological activity as proteins.
04

Disease associations

None directly—the pseudogene itself has no established direct disease role or protein function. (Research on *BNIP3* protein may sometimes be misattributed to the pseudogene in literature searches; results must be interpreted cautiously.)
