Overview

BNIP3P15 stands for BCL2 interacting protein 3 pseudogene 15 and represents a non-protein-coding pseudogene belonging to the BNIP3 gene family[1]. Pseudogenes like BNIP3P15 are generally non-functional for protein coding but may contribute regulatory or competitive roles at the RNA level, such as serving as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), modulating the availability of microRNAs that would otherwise target functional homologs[3][5]. There is currently no evidence suggesting BNIP3P15 encodes a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other therapeutic target class, nor that it is itself pursued as a drug target, biomarker, or has established roles in disease[1][5]. Functionally characterized relatives such as BNIP3P1 have been shown to modulate gene expression and cell fate by sequestering microRNAs[3], but specific biological functionality or disease relevance for BNIP3P15 has not been reported in available references. Thus, this "target" is incorrectly categorized for therapeutic purposes: it is a pseudogene and not a classical drug target, receptor, or enzyme.
