BCL2 interacting protein 3 pseudogene 2 (BNIP3P2) is a human pseudogene related to the BCL2 interacting protein 3 gene (BNIP3). While BNIP3 is a pro-apoptotic protein involved in cell death processes such as apoptosis, necrosis, and autophagy[1][2], BNIP3P2 is not known to produce a functional protein and has no established role in biological pathways, disease, or pharmacology. Pseudogenes like BNIP3P2 commonly arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and may regulate their parent gene at the RNA level, but no evidence for such a function exists for BNIP3P2 specifically. All major information, including drug targets and disease associations, applies to BNIP3 rather than its pseudogene BNIP3P2[2][3]. Most search results and scientific literature focus on BNIP3 (the protein-coding gene and therapeutic target) rather than BNIP3P2 (the pseudogene). Therefore, BNIP3P2 itself is not a therapeutic target, and its name may be mistakenly cited when BNIP3 is actually meant.
