Overview

BCL2 interacting protein 3 pseudogene 23 (BNIP3P23) is a processed pseudogene located on human chromosome 19 (region 19p12). As a pseudogene, it does not encode a functional protein. BNIP3P23 has sequence similarity to the protein-coding gene BNIP3, a member of the BCL2 family involved in apoptosis and autophagy, but BNIP3P23 itself has no known biological role or clinical relevance. It is sometimes referenced as a genetic locus in genomic databases due to its sequence similarity to functional genes, but it is not a therapeutic target and has no direct implications in disease, drug response, or biology. The functional paralog, BNIP3 (BCL2 interacting protein 3), is a well-characterized apoptosis regulator and is considered a target of interest in cancer, ischemia, and other diseases, but BNIP3P23 is not.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable; no drugs or mechanisms of action relevant.

03

Biological functions

None; as a pseudogene, BNIP3P23 does not encode a functional protein product and therefore has no known biological function
04

Disease associations

None directly; there is no evidence BNIP3P23 has a direct role in disease
05

Safety considerations

None reported; it does not encode a functional protein
06

Interacting drugs

None; there are no drugs known to interact with this pseudogene
07

Biomarkers

None; BNIP3P23 is not reported as a biomarker for any clinical use
