Overview

BNIP3P31 is a human pseudogene in the BNIP3 gene family, formally named "BCL2 interacting protein 3 pseudogene 31" and abbreviated as BNIP3P31. It does not encode a functional protein and is classified as a pseudogene in genomic databases. Although pseudogenes are not targets for direct therapeutic intervention, some—like BNIP3P31—may have regulatory roles via RNA-mediated mechanisms. Specifically, a related pseudogene, BNIP3P1, has been shown to act as a competing endogenous RNA regulating the expression of BNIP3 and modulating cell proliferation and apoptosis in preeclampsia, but there is no evidence that BNIP3P31 itself has confirmed functional or disease roles. BNIP3P31 is not a canonical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and no drugs or mechanisms of action are associated with it.
