Overview

BNIP3P34 (BCL2 interacting protein 3 pseudogene 34) is a human gene classified as a pseudogene[7][8]. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to functional genes but typically incapable of encoding a functional protein due to mutations or lack of necessary regulatory elements[8]. While some pseudogenes may be transcribed into RNA, they are not usually translated into biologically active proteins, nor are they recognized as drug targets, biomarkers, or safety concerns in therapeutic development[8]. The canonical BNIP3 gene (not BNIP3P34) codes for a pro-apoptotic mitochondrial protein important for cell death and autophagy[1], but BNIP3P34 does not encode for such a protein and is not considered to play a direct biological role. There are no reported disease associations, functions, or drug interactions for BNIP3P34.
