Overview

BCL2 interacting protein 3 pseudogene 7 (BNIP3P7) is classified as a human pseudogene. Pseudogenes are genomic sequences similar to known genes but generally regarded as nonfunctional due to mutations or lack of key regulatory elements required for expression. BNIP3P7 is related by sequence to the protein-coding gene BNIP3, which is a member of the BCL2 family involved in regulating cell death and autophagy. However, there is no evidence that BNIP3P7 itself encodes a functional protein or has direct biological or pharmacological roles.
