BCL2-interacting protein 5 (BNIP5)

Target
BNIP5
Molecular classification
BCL-2 family-like protein, Other (BCL2-interacting protein, typically classified under "Other" as it is not a classic receptor, ion channel, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor[4][2])
01

Overview

BCL2-interacting protein 5 (BNIP5) is a mitochondrial protein that belongs to the BCL2-interacting protein (BNIP) subfamily[2][4]. It is implicated in modulating interactions among BCL2 family members, which collectively regulate apoptosis (programmed cell death)[2][1]. While the BCL2 family is central to mitochondrial membrane permeabilization and cell fate decisions, the function of BNIP5 itself has not been comprehensively defined. Its expression has been reported in some cancer types and neurodevelopmental disorders, but there is little evidence for a primary, canonical physiological or pathological role or for drug interaction[4][6][2]. BNIP5 is not currently considered an established drug target.
