Overview

BCL2L1 antisense RNA 1 is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense from the BCL2L1 locus on chromosome 20q11.21[4][10]. As a lncRNA, BCL2L1-AS1 is believed to participate in the regulation of its sense gene, BCL2L1, which encodes the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-xL. The methylation status of the BCL2L1-AS1 genomic region has been identified as a predictive biomarker for the response to MCL1 inhibitors in pediatric high-grade gliomas, indicating a potential regulatory and prognostic role in cancer therapy[5]. To date, BCL2L1-AS1 is not itself a direct therapeutic target of drugs, but its molecular influence on apoptosis and drug resistance pathways is under investigation.
