Overview

BCL6 antisense RNA 1 (BCL6-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the BCL6 gene and is located at the same chromosomal locus where many BCL6 gene translocation breakpoints occur[1][6][8][9]. BCL6-AS1 is classified as an antisense RNA because it is transcribed from the opposite DNA strand relative to BCL6[1][8][10]. It is naturally expressed in human B cells, mainly in certain subtypes of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), particularly the germinal center B-cell (GCB) subtype[1]. Experimental data suggest that BCL6-AS1 may be involved in the regulation of BCL6 expression, either directly or indirectly, and by extension could influence lymphomagenesis and B-cell malignancy pathogenesis[1]. BCL6-AS1 is not considered a classical therapeutic target like a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, but rather functions in gene regulation at the RNA level, thus its modulation may have potential future applications in biomarker research or as a target for lncRNA-directed therapies, although no drugs or direct clinical applications are currently documented[1][9].
