Overview
BCR-ABL1 mRNA is the messenger RNA transcript produced from the BCR-ABL1 fusion gene, a hallmark molecular marker for Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and Philadelphia-positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Its presence confirms diagnosis and its levels are used to monitor treatment response. While the mRNA itself isn't directly targeted by drugs, it is a surrogate marker for the presence of the oncogenic BCR-ABL1 protein, which is the target of tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
