Target intelligence / Profile preview
BCR pseudogene 1 is a presumed noncoding genetic element related to the canonical BCR gene, represented in genomic databases as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes are generally nonfunctional remnants of protein-coding genes and are not considered therapeutic targets. The established BCR gene (not BCRP1) encodes a protein involved in GTPase regulation and kinase activity[3][4], and gene fusion events such as BCR-ABL are clinically relevant in leukemia, but no similar information exists for BCRP1. The term "BCRP1" may be confused with "Breast cancer resistance protein" (BCRP, ABCG2), an ABC transporter and validated drug resistance target[5][1], but BCRP1 does not correspond to ABCG2. There is insufficient evidence for biological, pharmacological, or clinical function for BCRP1, and the term itself may reflect a database artifact or obsolete naming practice[6]. The only scientific database mention for BCRP1 is as a pseudogene (GeneCards)[6], and no recognized biological or pathophysiological function has been attributed to this sequence. Confusion with "BCRP" (ABCG2, Breast cancer resistance protein) should be strictly avoided; the two terms refer to unrelated entities[1][5]. If structured information is needed for a true therapeutic target, refer to the canonical BCR gene (Breakpoint cluster region) or BCRP (Breast cancer resistance protein, ABCG2), as BCRP1 is not valid for most clinical or biochemical contexts.
