BCR pseudogene 5 (BCRP5)

Target
BCRP5
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)
01

Overview

BCR pseudogene 5 is a processed pseudogene related to the BCR (Breakpoint cluster region) gene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically non-functional due to mutations that prevent transcription or translation into functional protein. Some pseudogenes, including certain BCR pseudogenes, may be transcribed as long non-coding RNAs and might participate in gene regulatory networks, often acting as competitive endogenous RNAs ("miRNA sponges") that modulate the levels of active messenger RNAs. However, BCR pseudogene 5 itself is not considered a protein-coding gene, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or established therapeutic target, and there is no evidence in the literature for direct involvement in disease mechanisms or drug targeting[2][1].

02

Biological functions

Competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) activity (may act as a "miRNA sponge" or regulator at the RNA level if transcribed)Other (potential to influence gene regulation but not direct protein-level function)
03

Disease associations

Other (some pseudogenes have reported correlations with cancer or gene regulatory networks, but specific roles for BCR pseudogene 5 are not reported in the literature)
