Overview

Bet v 1-specific T-cell receptors are membrane-bound heterodimeric proteins expressed on T lymphocytes that specifically recognize Bet v 1 peptides presented by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules. Bet v 1 is the major allergen in birch pollen and is responsible for triggering allergic responses in sensitized individuals. Upon binding to Bet v 1-MHC complexes, these TCRs initiate T-cell activation, proliferation, and polarization—primarily driving a Th2-type immune response with production of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, and IgE antibodies. This mechanism underlies the clinical manifestation of birch pollen allergy. Understanding Bet v 1-specific TCRs is critical for developing diagnostic tools and novel allergen immunotherapies, as modulating these T-cell responses can induce immune tolerance and prevent allergic reactions.
