Overview

Bet1 golgi vesicular membrane trafficking protein pseudogene 1 (BET1P1) is classified as a **pseudogene**, meaning it is a segment of DNA resembling a known gene (in this case, the BET1 gene) but is generally considered non-functional in terms of encoding a protein[1][4][6][8]. BET1P1 is a retrocopy of the gene BET1, which encodes a SNARE protein essential for vesicular trafficking between the endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi apparatus. However, unlike BET1, **BET1P1 does not produce a functional protein** and is not currently known to perform any direct biological function or to be implicated in disease mechanisms or drug targeting[1][4][6][8]. No interacting drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns have been described for BET1P1. Because it is a pseudogene and not an active gene product like an enzyme, receptor, or transporter, **BET1P1 is not considered a therapeutic target**. Additionally, pseudogenes, including BET1P1, historically were considered “junk DNA,” but some have emerging regulatory or other non-coding RNA roles; currently, no such function is clearly established for BET1P1[1][4][6][8][2]. BET1P1 should not be confused with **BET1 (Bet1 golgi vesicular membrane trafficking protein)**, which is a functional SNARE protein involved in ER-to-Golgi vesicular transport[5][7][9].
