Enzyme, Glycosyltransferase, Type II membrane protein
01
Overview
Beta-1,4-galactosyltransferase 6 (B4GALT6) is an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of glycosphingolipids, specifically catalyzing the transfer of galactose from UDP-galactose to glucosylceramide to produce lactosylceramide, a precursor for gangliosides and other complex glycolipids. B4GALT6 is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein localized to the Golgi apparatus and plays a critical role in neuronal maturation and myelin formation. Mutations in B4GALT6 are associated with neurodevelopmental and connective tissue disorders[1][2][5][7].
Not applicable/no drugs documented; theoretical inhibition would impact glycosphingolipid biosynthesis
