Beta-2 adrenergic receptor mRNA (ADRB2 mRNA) is the transcript encoded by the ADRB2 gene (NCBI Gene: 154), serving as the essential template for the synthesis of the Beta-2 adrenergic receptor protein. This protein is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that plays a vital role in mediating smooth muscle relaxation in the airways and blood vessels (Source: UniProt P07550). While the ADRB2 protein is the classical target for bronchodilators like albuterol, the mRNA itself is a target for experimental RNA-based therapies, including antisense oligonucleotides and siRNAs designed to modulate receptor expression (Source: PubMed PMID 10449236).
