The beta-2-adrenoceptor (β₂-adrenoreceptor), also known as ADRB2, is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) located on the cell membrane. It primarily binds epinephrine (adrenaline) and, to a lesser extent, norepinephrine. Upon activation by its ligands, it stimulates adenylate cyclase via Gs proteins, leading to increased intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP). This signaling cascade results in physiological effects such as smooth muscle relaxation and bronchodilation.
Agonists stimulate adenylate cyclase via Gs proteins, leading to increased intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP). Antagonists block the binding of agonists, preventing receptor activation.
