Beta Amyloid Peptide (Aβ)

Target
Molecular classification
Peptide, Protein fragment
01

Overview

Beta amyloid peptide (Aβ) is a short peptide, typically 36–43 amino acids in length, generated by the proteolytic cleavage of the amyloid precursor protein (APP) via sequential action of β-secretase and γ-secretase enzymes. The most common isoforms are Aβ40 and Aβ42, with Aβ42 being more prone to aggregation and neurotoxicity. It is a major component of amyloid plaques in Alzheimer's disease and a key target for therapeutic interventions.
