Beta-arrestins are a family of multifunctional intracellular proteins that regulate cellular signaling, particularly through interactions with G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). They play a crucial role in GPCR desensitization, internalization, and signaling through G protein-independent pathways. They serve as scaffolds connecting GPCRs to various downstream signaling pathways.
Beta-arrestins regulate GPCR signaling by binding to activated and phosphorylated receptors, preventing G protein coupling and initiating receptor internalization and downstream signaling cascades.
