Overview

Beta-arrestin recruitment refers to the process by which beta-arrestins (β-arrestin 1 and β-arrestin 2) are recruited to activated G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) at the cell membrane. This event is a key step in both terminating G protein signaling and initiating alternative signaling pathways independent of G proteins. Beta-arrestins act as adaptors, facilitating receptor desensitization, internalization, and scaffolding of signaling complexes.
