Overview
Pancreatic beta cell function refers to the capacity of pancreatic beta cells, located in the islets of Langerhans, to synthesize, store, and secrete insulin and amylin in response to blood glucose levels. This function is essential for maintaining glucose homeostasis (euglycaemia) in the body. Dysfunction or loss of beta cell function is a major contributor to diabetes mellitus.
