Beta-defensin 129 (DEFB129) is a member of the beta-defensin family of cationic, cysteine-rich antimicrobial peptides primarily expressed in epithelial tissues and the male reproductive tract, especially the epididymis[5][3]. DEFB129 is also implicated in sperm maturation, motility, and fertilization, particularly in the epididymis, with evidence suggesting region-specific expression and possible contribution to idiopathic infertility[3].
