Target intelligence / Profile preview
Beta-Klotho (KLB) is a type I single-pass transmembrane glycoprotein and an essential co-receptor in the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling pathway, particularly for endocrine FGFs such as FGF19, FGF21, and FGF15. It forms heterodimeric complexes with specific fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs), notably FGFR1c and FGFR4. Beta-Klotho is central to metabolic homeostasis, regulating carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, bile acid homeostasis and demonstrating anti-inflammatory action in the liver. Dysfunction leads to metabolic dysregulation and liver function disturbances.
Modulation of beta-Klotho or its ligand interactions for therapeutic effect.
