Beta-Lactamase Enzyme (Class A and C) (N/A)

Target
N/A
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Hydrolase, Serine-based Beta-Lactamase
01

Overview

Beta-lactamases are enzymes produced by bacteria that confer resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics by hydrolyzing the beta-lactam ring. Class A beta-lactamases hydrolyze penicillins and early-generation cephalosporins. Class C beta-lactamases (cephalosporinases) efficiently hydrolyze most cephalosporins. Production of these enzymes is a major mechanism of antibiotic resistance.
