Target intelligence / Profile preview
BACE2 is a type I integral membrane glycoprotein and an aspartic protease belonging to the peptidase A1 protein family. It is closely related to BACE1. It cleaves APP, influencing amyloid-beta peptide production and plays a role in melanosome formation, glucose homeostasis and endothelial function. Its involvement in Alzheimer's disease and Down syndrome is under investigation.
