Target intelligence / Profile preview
Beta-tubulin is a globular protein that forms heterodimers with alpha-tubulin, which are the building blocks of microtubules. Microtubules are essential cytoskeletal filaments involved in structural support, intracellular transport, cell division, and cell motility. Beta-tubulin binds GTP and its hydrolysis regulates microtubule dynamics. Multiple beta-tubulin isotypes exist with varying tissue expression patterns. Beta-tubulin is a target for several chemotherapeutic drugs.
Microtubule stabilization (e.g., Paclitaxel) or destabilization (e.g., Colchicine, Vinca alkaloids).
