Bicaudal D-related protein 2 (BICDL2) is a member of the BICD family of coiled-coil cargo adaptor proteins, which mediate intracellular transport by linking specific cargos to the cytoplasmic dynein/dynactin motor complex for minus-end directed transport along microtubules[1][2][4]. BICDL2 shares homology with other BICD family proteins such as BICD2 and BICDL1, and like these, likely functions as an adaptor by binding both to dynein/dynactin via its N-terminal regions and to distinct cargoes—such as membranous organelles or vesicles—via its C-terminal coiled-coil domains[1][4]. BICDL2 is also known as coiled-coil domain-containing protein 64B (CCDC64B) and is expressed in various tissues, but its precise cellular roles remain less well-studied compared to BICD2. There is no current evidence that BICDL2 serves as a direct therapeutic target, nor have interacting drugs, specific disease roles, biomarkers, or safety concerns been described in the literature. However, BICD family proteins as a group are crucial for maintaining cellular organization, vesicular trafficking, and possibly neuronal function through their regulation of the dynein molecular motor complex[1][2][4].
